Today, I decided that I wanted to show up.
I do all the things I normally need to do to start writing. I make a pot of coffee. I put on some instrumental music. I light a candle. I spray my Rosemary oil spray (it really does help me focus!).
And now here I sit. But that’s OK.
I don’t have to write today. Maybe I’ll feel inspired to post a video on Instagram. Maybe I’ll work on crafting imagery.
But I did the hardest part. I showed up. I put time in my calendar that said “work on Communicate Your Joy content.” And here I am.
I decided earlier this week that I was going to actually craft the space and the time to work on my own business, which is hard, because I have awesome clients who have projects, and I’d rather be helping them.
I did some reflecting on not only when I wanted to show up, but how I wanted to show up. I’ll be honest: going live on camera still scares me. But this blog makes it easy for me to hide myself.
Sometimes, like today, showing up is hard, and showing up in a way that is comfortable is better than not showing up at all.
What is the easiest way for you to show up and be seen more powerfully in your business? Maybe you hate sitting in front of a computer and you’d rather film a quick story from your car. Maybe you love in-person connections and networking meetings. Maybe it’s public speaking.
Whatever it is, find the time to do it, and don’t worry about the results. Yes, this is said as I’m stressing about word count and photo and proper grammar in this post. But showing up as your authentic, imperfect self, and making it a habit, will net you larger rewards than waiting until you have the “perfect” moment.
It’s hard, guys, I get it. But I’m doing it anyways. How about you?
